Visitor Information

Planning a visit to Townsville Museum? Here you’ll find helpful information about opening hours, admission, facilities, photography, group visits and what to expect when you arrive.

Townsville Museum is operated with the support of dedicated volunteers, who help welcome visitors and share the stories behind the museum’s local history displays.

Planning Your Visit

Tickets and Entry

There is no need to book online for general admission. Visitors can pay on arrival during opening hours.

For school visits, community groups, seniors’ groups, social groups, corporate groups, clubs or larger organised visits, please contact the museum in advance so the volunteer team can help plan your visit.

After-hours group bookings may also be available by prior arrangement.

What to Expect When You Arrive

Townsville Museum is a volunteer-supported museum, so you will usually be welcomed by one or two volunteers during opening hours.

They can assist with general visitor enquiries, provide basic guidance around the museum and help answer questions where possible. As the museum is run with volunteer support, availability of specific information or assistance may vary from day to day.

Photography and Filming

Photography for personal use is welcome in most areas of the museum, unless signs indicate otherwise.

Please be respectful of other visitors and avoid using flash where it may affect delicate items or displays.

For commercial photography, filming, media enquiries or other special requests, please contact the museum before your visit.

School and Group Visits

Townsville Museum welcomes school groups, seniors’ groups, community organisations, clubs and history groups.

Group visits should be arranged in advance so the museum can confirm availability, arrival times and any specific requirements. This is especially important for larger groups or visitors who may need additional assistance.

Parking

Limited onsite parking is available, including an accessible parking space near the entrance. Additional street parking may be available nearby on Barbeler Street, subject to availability and local signage.

For buses, school groups or larger organised visits, please contact the museum before arriving to discuss suitable drop-off and parking arrangements.

Before You Visit

To make the most of your visit, we recommend checking the museum’s opening hours and contacting the team if you have questions about group visits, accessibility, parking, school bookings or special enquiries.

Accessibility

Townsville Museum aims to make visits as comfortable as possible for all guests. If you or someone in your group has accessibility needs, please contact the museum before visiting so the team can provide current information about access, parking and movement through the displays.
